Borovets
Borovets is the oldest winter skiing resort which is situated in the eastern part of the Rila Mountains at about 1300 m altitude and it is 68 km from Sofia City the capital of Bulgaria, 125 km from Plovdiv, the second largest town in Bulgaria and 9 km from the town of Samokov.
The skiing season starts in December and ends in April. There are excellent conditions for mountain tourism and sports. The overall marked skiing tracks are 60 km long. The resort has facilities for biathlon and a ski jumping track. Snowboarders can take advantage of various sophisticated terrains and two specialized snow parks and a promo park. There are opportunities for night skiing. The youngest children can enjoy the specialized snow park Boro Kids.
There are three ski centres in Borovets:
1. Markujik – is at an altitude of about 2 500 m. Тhe thick snow cover gives you an opportunity of extreme skiing. A system for snow keeping has been created in order to prolong the ski season.
2. Sitnyakovo – is situated at an altitude of about 1350 m to 1780 m. It has snow facilities for the maintenance of eight tracks and a promo park.
3. Yastrebets – is situated at an altitude of about 1350 m – 2370 m. It has snow facilities for four tracks.
There are holiday houses (villas) settlements and boutique hotels amid venerable coniferous woods which offer convenience and warm atmosphere for tired skiers.
During hot summer days, Borovets welcomes tourists. It is a marvelous site for pedestrian tourism. It offers its tourists opportunities for hunting and fishing, cycling, eco tracks, etc.
